The treaty of the 1943 Armistice of Cassibile

The **Armistice of Cassibile**, signed on September 3, 1943, between the Kingdom of Italy and the Allies, formalized Italy’s surrender and the cessation of hostilities against Anglo-American forces. The agreement, publicly announced on September 8 by Marshal Pietro Badoglio, triggered a profound military and political crisis: the Italian army was largely left without clear orders, while German troops began occupying much of the peninsula. On September 29, 1943, Badoglio signed a further document in Malta—known as the “long armistice”—which specified and expanded upon the conditions imposed on Italy. The events following the armistice marked the beginning of a new phase of the war, characterized by German occupation, the Resistance, and the progressive Allied advance.Special thanks to Don Floriano https://donflorianorisponde.altervista.org
